Literary Highgate

Join Library member Isabel Raphael for a gentle literary tour of Highgate Village without leaving the comfort of the Library. Discover the remarkable collection of writers from Samuel Taylor Coleridge to John Betjeman who have made Highgate their home, in a talk illustrated with pictures from the archives of the Highgate Literary & Scientific Institution (HLSI).

Isabel Raphael lived in the heart of Highgate for 23 years when she was Headmistress of Channing School and later the first woman President of the HLSI. She runs adult reading groups in Latin and Ancient Greek at the HLSI and in Hammersmith.
